ECM Jazz Style

Marko lives in Berlin, Germany. We met online through a “musicians in Berlin”, Facebook group.

He approached me to record this tune. He said I have the freedom to do whatever I wish. From one hand, I got a blank sheet to choose what I like. From the other hand, would the composer and the creator of the music like it? will he connect?! I wanna remind you that we are 2850km (1770ml) apart and Marko wasn’t present at the studio. I had to make sure we are on the same page 🙂

Listening to the rough mix reminded me of good old Pat Matheney. I went ECM jazz approach all the way.

On this track I used a 13×6.5 Yamaha’s Steve Jordan’s signature snare drum, a 22×18 USA Gretsch bass drum and a mix of Zildjian’s and Bosphorus rides and hats.

Choosing the right sounds helped me to fit the genre and the style. Marko was very pleased with the result. Thank you Marko for the opportunity to be a part of your creation! ☺️
